WalkNorfolk25 – Wilder West Norfolk: A guided walking tour at Wild Ken Hill (Snettisham)

Host – Eva, Wild Ken Hill

Starting from The Old Store cafe in Snettisham, we’ll cross Lynn Road and take the footpath through Ken Hill Woods, gently climbing uphill along the Carrstone ridge whose rock gives many historic buildings in West Norfolk their distinctive gingerbread colour. Pausing at the top to take in the view and hear about why and how the landscape of the area is changing to make more space for nature, we’ll leave the public footpath and enter a section of the Wild Ken Hill project, normally closed to the public, where free-roaming herds of ponies, pigs and cattle might be spotted in the distance.

Following the perimeter of the Beaver enclosure, we’ll stop to look at how the once dry landscape has been transformed into a wet and wonderful wildlife paradise. This part of the route will be squelchy so waterproof footwear is essential! We’ll rejoin the footpath and continue around the edge of the woods, returning to The Old Store.

Recommended age 10+ due to duration, terrain and potential for cold/wet conditions.

The meeting point at The Old Store does not have public parking, recommended parking locations that are safe and considerate of residents are:
