Norwich before the Norman Conquest

The Domesday Book, written on the orders of William the Conqueror, records that Norwich was already a prominent town. On this tour we explore the origins of our favourite city during the pre-Conquest Saxon and Viking periods.
We meet at Erpingham Gate in front of the Anglican Cathedral and go on a circular tour of places and buildings associated with pre-Conquest Norwich. These include Westwick, Fishergate and St. Mary’s Coslany. On the way, we’ll also talk about stories such as that of St. Edmund and the wolf.
