31/08/25 A Wilderness Quest for all the family.

31 August 2025 10:00 - 31 August 2025 12:00

A great walk for the  summer holidays.
The Wilderness Quest walk will be about discovering the clues and history of the Ludham and Potter Heigham marshes.
Find out about the monks of the marshes and the old drainage pump!
But first you must look out for the clues along the way!
Come of this adventure to find out more.
This circular walk explores the magical landscape of Ludham and Potter Heigham Marshes, part of the Broads National Park and a National Nature Reserve. You will follow paths beside ancient grazing marshes alive with dragonflies, owls, and curious cattle. Look out for the rare Norfolk hawker dragonfly—it’s only found in the Broads and nowhere else in the UK! Beneath your feet are dykes (pronounced “dikes”) dug hundreds of years ago to manage water—some are deeper than they look and still work today.
You’re walking through a landscape shaped by people for over 1,000 years. In medieval times, monks farmed these marshes and used boats to travel between reed beds and churches! Potter Heigham is home to one of the oldest bridges in the Broads, built in 1385—it’s so low, boats need special pilots to pass under it!
